<description>This feed shows tunes that I've added to the web site
Dennis'
Grab Bag of Gifs, a site consiting of .gif format images of "sheet music" for
traditional Irish Tunes, mostly those played at the session at the Treehouse
Coffee Shop, Audubon, NJ. The first two items will always be the links to the
tune page and the Treehouse web page; links to the lastest additions to the
tune page follow, with the most recent addtions at the top</description>

    <title>The Sligo Maid (reel)</title>
<description>The Sligo Maid added 04 Feb 2012. This is an old session
standard that mysteriously never "maid" it onto my website. I finally posted
it after teaching it this morning to whistle player Mike Glennan.

    <title>Blackberry Blossom (reel)</title>
    <description>Blackberry Blossom added 13 Nov 2011. Another tune that's
been rattling around my brain for years but never put up on the site. I've
heard versions by John Vesey and Conal O Grada, but finally transcribed it
after a post-house-concert session with Brian Conway.

<title>My Love Is But A Lassie Yet (polka)</title>
<description>My Love Is But A Lassie Yet added 10 Oct 2011 This is a tune I
often hear at those ceilis and set dances where Kevin McGillian plays for polka
figures. Chris Brennan Hagy brought it to the October 2011 Young Musician's
Session at the Irish Center in Philadelphia.

    <title>Hare in the Corn (jig)</title>
<description>Hare in the Corn added 18 May 2011 A fun tune to play, I
first heard it from the Planxty album Cold Blow and The Rainy night. It was
featured in the performance by Seamus Beagly and Oisin Oisin Mac Diarmada in a
house concert at our residence about a month and a half ago, and has become a
popular tune at the session at the Treehouse Coffee Shop.

<description>Mist on the Glen added 15 Mar 2011 This tune always gets
played at the set dances by Kevin and Jimmy McGillian, but I was inspired to
transcribe it when Muriel ("Where's the Fire?") Prickett included it in a set
at one of the Treehouse Coffee Shop sessions.

    <title>The Furze in Bloom (Jig)</title>
<description>The Furze in Bloom Jig added 07 Feb 2011 Back in June 2004, we
hosted a house concert with fluter Ciaran Somers and piper David Power. Ciaran
had a wonderful sound on flute, and David is a marvelous piper.

Fast forward to 2010, and Ciaran finally released a CD, with fiddler Dave
Sheridan and guitarist Nicolas Quemener. This tune is the first in one of the
sets they play; Kathy heard it while we were driving to a session and fell in
love with it .

    <title>The Birds (Hornpipe)</title>
<description>The Birds Hornpipe added 22 Jan 2011 I learned this from the
playing of June McCormick of Sligo. June did a workshop at our house along
with harper Michael Rooney in 2000, and I've adored her flute playing ever
since. They comprise the duo
Draiocht, with a pair of albums to their
credit, as well as many tours, performances, workshops and classes.

Though they've not recorded this, Michael and June play this as the second tune
in a set with
McGivney's Fancy. The set can be found on YouTube at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB2g7YeoFCY at the 1:54 mark.

    <title>The Miltown Jig (Jig)</title>
<description>The Miltown Jig added 9 Jan 2011 I remember teaching this tune
to the whistle class I run for the Delaware Valley Branch of Comhaltas in the
early part of the last decade after learning it from the playing of Antoin Mac
Gabhann and his students on the landmark album "Lamh ar Lamh". I was reminded
of it again recently when Box Hero Kevin McGillian used this tune playing for the Haymakers
Jig at the South Jersey Irish Society's Hoolie (Irish dance party) in Palmyra,
NJ.
