SPRING LAKE INN HARPERS ESCAPE
by Thomas Michael Anthony Sheaffer
(composed by Thomas on October 20, 1998 after the Sixth Annual Harpers
Escape
reprinted here with his permission)
We went east to New Jersey
To be by the sea
My wife, my harp and me
And stayed at a romantic "B" and "B"
just a few steps from the mystical sea.
The harpers’ began to trickle on in
to the home of the Gatens
at the Spring Lake Inn
Welcomed all….
by their gracious hosts Pat and Jim
‘Twas not long and all the harps were in tune
and the songs of the harps were singing by noon.
The music and mirth lasted all day
the laments were all done
then the notes turned gay
"Summertime" ended our day that night
with the harps still singing by the porch candlelight.
All were cared for and ate their fill
no finer hosts could have fit that bill
then the Gatens’….. Pat and Jim
and their love for the harpers’ at the Spring Lake Inn.
