Domain Name Service

for Member Institutions

Your institution may obtain unique e-mail and web addresses on the HSLC system. Rather than using SHRSYS.HSLC.ORG or HSLC.ORG, your institution can set up a "domain name" more reflective of your own name and type of organization.

HSLC members which access the Internet via dial-up service as well as via dedicated connections may have their own domain name.

Because of the high volume of domain name registrations at the InterNIC (the organization which processes domain name registrations), and because each domain name must be unique, consider reserving a domain name for your institution as soon as possible. Particularly if your institution plans to have a dedicated connection to the Internet, you should reserve a domain name now. Even if you do not begin to use it on your own host immediately, the InterNIC is likely to consider the name to be "in use" since it is linked to HSLC's address. An "in use" status will help to protect your name should another party attempt to register the same name.
